Kevin from Your Humanities Seminar Wants to Know if He “Could, Like, Paint You Sometime?”

[Developing Story] Brown University senior, Jessica, woke on the morning of her last-ever Zoom class to the following unnerving message:

“Hey, Jess lol. How’re you? I know that’s like a crazy question to be asking right now, but I guess I’m just conditioned to ask, that’s the power of the English language haha, gotta respect it. Anyway, quarantine has been really hard on me and my guitar, Linus, but we’ve been finding solace lately in different artistic endeavors… I’ve been thinking and like… your image just needs to be captured on a canvas… I can tell. So, maybe if you’re free later this week, lol I guess you have no excuse because we’re all like free all the time now, right? Haha, so bored I almost texted my ex last nite. Anyway, I wanted to ask if maybe I could like paint you over Zoom sometime? And, while I paint you, you can tell me about your relationship with your father? I promise, I’ll listen. I was also thinking of incorporating some of our conversations into the second chapter of my memoir, but you won’t know that until I self-publish it three years from now. Haha, I don’t really know how to end this message… I’m not that great at texting (but still like a really good listener). So, I guess you’ll let me know if I should order that box set of acrylics from Amazon Prime, and then I’ll probably respond to you 2-3 weeks from now ;)”
