Why Blueno is Problematic

Untitled (Lamp/Bear), better known by their stage name “Blueno”, has come under fire recently, some going so far as to label the campus sculpture “problematic”. I am inclined to agree.

Firstly, Blueno has remained silent on countless social issues affecting students at Brown. Surely, Blueno is cognisant of the massive impact they have on the Brown community. Blueno is a local influencer with a huge cult-like following, with fan accounts such as ‘Dear Blueno’ and ‘Blueno Bears Admirers’ garnering thousands of likes and shares from the Brown community. Undoubtedly, Blueno has an incredible platform from which they could speak out against social issues.

Yet, Blueno has chosen to remain silent on all of them, not even engaging with their fans in the slightest. Debates ranging from the Granoff Dinners to whether pee is stored in the balls have characterised recent years on campus. Still, Blueno has not spoken up and out on any of them. Where was Blueno at the climate strike? Sitting comfortably in their quadrangle. Complicit. I would have been there myself, obviously, but I had a h̶a̶n̶g̶o̶v̶e̶r̶ meeting. Anyways. Ignorance is a disease, Blueno. Get well soon.

Politics aside, Blueno models toxic behaviour for the Brown community. Blueno literally lets students walk all over them. The negative energy this influencer gives off by not standing up for themselves and practicing self-love,,,, it makes my vibe curdle faster than soy milk in coffee. Do better. And don’t even get me started on the man-spreading! Look at the space between those legs. That bear takes to consuming space like drunk girls take to elevated surfaces.

Blueno should be shedding light on things that matter to their followers, not just that tawny-ass patch of grass. Come on, people. It is high time we cancel Blueno. If you agree, share #CancelBlueno on all your social media channels- anonymously. Obviously.
