As I started to walk back to my dorm after a grueling 9 a.m. class in Sayles hall, I heard one of my least favorite sounds: a man’s voice. He sounded very impassioned, and I had nothing better to do, so I was inclined to go up to him and listen.
“Do you believe in Jesus?” he asked me.
“No!”
“Oh, that’s alright.”
I was shocked. If he didn’t care, then why was he out there for hours every day? Did he lose a bet? Was he being forced to do this against his will? I had to help him.
“Why are you out here every day then?” I asked.
“Well, I’m just doing rejection therapy!”
I had never heard of this so-called “rejection therapy” before, so I asked him what it was.
“It’s when you desensitize yourself to rejection so that when you do actually get rejected it doesn’t bother you. When everyone ignores me and gives me dirty looks, it actually makes me feel better! I heard about it on TikTok and it completely changed my life!”
Now, whenever I pass the faunce arch preacher, I scowl at him—and he smiles back!
