And the Oscar goes to…Not Irina Shayk

Ah the Academy Awards.  Hollywood’s biggest event unfolded this past weekend.  There were winners, there were snubs, but there was one clear loser:  Irina Shayk.  One might think, huh?  How could Irina Shayk have lost when she wasn’t even nominated?  Also, she pretty much seems to be winning at life right now given that she looks like beauty incarnate and is in a relationship with Bradley Cooper.  To answer this question, I will draw your attention to Bradley and Lady Gaga’s performance of Shallow. Do yourself a favor, click the hyperlink, and watch it.

The emotion: palpable.  The chemistry: undeniable.  You might say “oh they’re actors, it’s their job to act like they are in love with each other.  And to that I say that you are wrong.  You cannot manufacture a connection like that.  I mean look at them.

Their eyes are closed, like they feel safe in each other’s arms.  Why else would they elect to share one microphone?  I almost felt bad watching because it seemed like I was intruding on such a personal moment, but of course I couldn’t look away.  In the words of my mom, “They are everything that is right with the world.”  Call Dave Chappelle, they all need to recreate the scene from A Star is Born and get married right now.

Which brings me to Irina.  This is a lose-lose situation for her.  Not only is her boyfriend and father of her child possibly in love with his muse and co-star, but now the entirety of America (and possibly the world) wants to see Lady Gaga and Bradley together.  I can only imagine what Irina was thinking as she sat in the audience and watched their performance.  She must have felt like she was in high school, sitting next to Bradley’s mom on the bleachers while he played basketball and made out with the quirky music girl who he loved all along. And while I clearly hate to speculate, Lady Gaga and her fiancé Christian Carino recently ended their engagement, leaving the gates open for their love. Irina will just have to settle for one of Bradley’s peers like Leonardo DiCaprio or Michael B. Jordan, or maybe even Spike Lee now that Bradley’s a director.

Irina and Lady Gaga seemed perfectly pleasant with each other throughout the night.  Affectionate even.  Following the performance Irina even hugged Lady Gaga.  I respect that Irina.  Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
