3 Tips for Mourning That Are So! In!

In these dark times, death is all around us. So many people have lost loved ones to the deadly coronavirus, and it certainly feels like the world is in a period of mourning. But on the bright side, GRIEF! IS! IN!

I know a thing or two about loss — my mouth-breathing pug Lord Minimus passed on two years ago, and I STILL feel his absence. Which is why I’ve been spending the pandemic sharing my grief as an inspiration to others. My Insta, @penelopethedogmommyfeelsurpain, has been on FIRE. Why? Because I GET THE STRUGGLE.

Are you looking to grow your social following? Join me in these #sadboihours and promote your own story of loss. Because if I’ve learned anything from the pandemic, it’s that we are ALL hurting. So why not use your PAIN for GAIN!!

Here are my top three tips for becoming a #griefluencer! Feel free to be inspired (I know if Lord Minimus could read any of this, he would be SO MOVED).

  1. LOCATE YOUR OWN PERSONAL STRUGGLE!

Take a moment to scroll through your Snapchat Memories. When was the last time you cried, then rubbed the mascara down your face to make sure everyone knew you were just crying? Maybe your ex found a new boo, you gained a full pound, or your local smoothie place stopped selling kale juice because you were the only one who drank it. Whatever the case, THIS IS YOUR TRAUMA. Time to capitalize reflect on that #personaldamage, just as I have with the SUPER SAD death of my dog!

  1. DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE COVID FOR THE CLOUT!

Everyone’s mind is on coronavirus. So if you want to use your pain to inspire, keep it real by mentioning corona in your post! Not only will this get you more likes, but it will help others to see their grief in your’s. I captioned this photo of Lord Minimus and me, “Don’t worry, America. Times are TOUGH. But if I learned anything from Lord Minimus’ death, it’s that in the shadow of darkness WE GROW STRONGER. (And for #stronger, more luxurious hair, use promo code STRONGER15 for 15% off Prose Hair products!)” Take notes, people.

  1. DON’T LET ANYONE FORGET YOUR GRIEF!

Make sure that everyone knows the wound of your heart will never heal. A constant stream of Instagram stories will help to make GRIEF = YOUR BRAND and show originality in the midst of less personal posts about vaccinations, the spread of the virus, dying relatives, etc. You might be wondering – but Penelope, how much can one say about the death of their dog or, say, their smoothie place no longer selling kale juice? If you’re asking that question, you CLEARLY don’t know the struggle. You should leave this important work to those of us who know #realpain.
