All women want to hear one word. Studies have shown it, people have spoken it, and the power of speech has been proven time after time. Ladies, we all know the word that stops us in our tracks. With a mere three letters, it can change our whole day. It is the word that can mean both everything and nothing: “Wow.”
The Rib is proud to present a long-awaited list: The Top 5 Celebs Who Say “Wow” A Lot. The results may surprise you…
- Jennifer Aniston
This chick’s mouth has maintained its O shape since the Friends pilot dropped in 1994. More often than not, JenAn (this nickname has yet to take off, but I’m optimistic) drops this word in genuine astonishment. Thanks to her liberal use of “wow,” Friends is able to feature episodes such as The One Where Rachel is Surprised, also known as Every Episode. To jog your memory, watch Vanessa Bayer’s impression on Saturday Night Live.
Not only are we comforted by Aniston’s wow because it was a constant for ten seasons; this wow takes us back to the 90’s! Through Aniston, we are transported and able to wow at Walkmans, slap bracelets, and dial-up.
- Rob Pardo, creator of World of Warcraft
Although there is no proof of Pardo’s wow count, it’s safe to assume he’s said “wow” like, a ton of times. As the inventor of the online role-playing game affectionately referred to as WoW, he’s got some experience under his belt. WoW has had what researchers call a Trickle-Down Wow Effect. Sure, it’s part of the name, but the game also inspires this word use in phrases like, “Wow, I can’t believe I’m enjoying this game despite my best efforts to judge it as ‘nerdy,’” and, “Wow, they make a board game version? And sell it in stores? In the Providence area, I hope?”
- Hillary Clinton
Any time Donald Trump says or does anything.
- Bow Wow
Now here’s a guy who’s pulling his wow weight. TAFKALBW (The Artist Formerly Known A Lil’ Bow Wow) has absolutely embraced wow culture since his album Beware of Dog dropped in 2000. His incorporation of this exclamation into his name and identity is an inspiration to us all. *Note to self: Change name to KaylaWow if this list does well. Make sure that Jenni “JWoww” from Jersey Shore does not have this trademarked in some way.
- Owen Wilson
Last but certainly not least, the leader of a movement, the voice in my head, the Dupree to our You & Me…. Owen Wilson! Looking for an easy celebrity impression? So is half the world! That’s why Owen Wilson exists. The iconic way he says the word that makes us all melt has replaced former icon Matthew McConaughey’s “Alright, alright, alright.” Wilson has wowed his way into notoriety, and has inspired several masterpieces such as this compilation and Melissa Villaseñor’s Daily Itineraries video. It is unclear if writers are allowing Wilson to showcase his strength, or if he is just constantly ad libbing a singular word. Perhaps he has no control over it. After all, if you rearrange the letters in his name, you get “Wow No Lines.” That has to mean something. Regardless, when you lift your soft palate to conjure Owen’s spirit, remember the power of the word “wow.”
