Fashion Tips for the Fickle Weather

Much like that class you have with that one professor who refuses to post assignments on Canvas, the weather in Providence is a difficult thing to plan in advance. Between the luxurious 70-degree sunshine, blistering wind, torrential downpours, and impending hurricane, there’s no predicting what the temperature will be. Even the usually reliable Weather iPhone app is becoming as flaky as that boy who never answers your texts! How can anyone be expected to keep up with Brown’s notable fashion aesthetic when the weather changes three times a day?

Never fear my clothing conscious and/or tragically confused readers! Listed below are a few ways to keep up with this ever-changing mess that is the Providence weather.

Protect your eyes – If there’s one constant aspect for all four seasons, it’s the sun. Carry around a pair of sunglasses and use them as shields from harmful UV rays, guards against the crippling wind, or defenses while caught in a torrential downpour.

Cover your ears – Are headphones considered a fashion accessory? Well, now they are! Not only are they handy for listening to the Hamilton cast recording as you walk to your nine AM Econ lecture, but they double as low-key earmuffs for when you don’t want to commit to anything too furry.

Fall-Scarves

Wrap it up – Scarves are an essential investment. A common misconception people have, however, is that these versatile snakes of cloth can only be worn as a sort of textured necklace for your neck. No longer is that the case! Wrap them wherever you need some extra warmth – your neck, your arms, your face. Or, if you’re feeling extra chilly all over, go ahead and mummify yourself. You may not be able to see or breathe, but you’re sure look stylish and feel great!

Under my umbrella, ella, ella – In the rain, wield your umbrella and keep it from messing up your hair and makeup. In the sun, call it a “parasol” and proceed to skip around and sing like a little kid in a cheesy 1950’s movie musical.

Layers upon layers – The key here is to think of every possible weather scenario, come up with an outfit to fit said scenarios, and then wear all outfits at once! For example, first throw on that super cute, summer thank top and jeans combo that’s perfect for the sunny summer. Over that, layer on your quintessentially maroon, heather gray, or pumpkin-colored chunky sweater and beanie. Finally, grab your oversized winter puffer, ski mask, and knitted infinity scarf. You’re ready for anything!

Of course, if all else fails, just remember that there’s almost definitely a building within five minutes away from you that has either hot coffee to warm you up from the miserable cold, or air conditioning to cool you down from a sweltering summery day.
